"You Don’t Have to Learn"

…day, many middle-aged men remember hunting or target shooting at informal ranges with their dads and brothers. They remember being encouraged to shoot shotguns, rifles, and handguns. As youngsters, they received Red Ryder BB guns and cap guns in “quick draw” cowboy holsters for Christmases and birthdays. They argued with friends over the relative merits of military calibers and they often had a rifle to call their own before they even reached… Continue reading

Is *your* lockbox secure?

…play button. I’ll have more to say about this later, but let me tell you one thing right now: Mechanical devices can fail. No matter how you choose to secure your firearms, you must educate your children when you have guns in the home. Failing to do so can leave a gaping hole in your family’s security system, no matter where the guns are stored.   Notes: Improved self confidence also allows you to become a more selfish jerk if… Continue reading

“Semi-automatic machine gun”

…Military and law enforcement agencies can and do purchase new full-auto guns, but ordinary people cannot. So when the media or politicians talk about banning “assault weapons,” they are not talking about banning guns that work like full-auto military weapons. Instead, these laws would ban simple, ordinary guns that have some cosmetic features that give them a military look — that’s all. It’s very confusing for… Continue reading

…en socialized into gun use by peers. For the children whose families had taught them about lawful gun use, the children were at no greater risk of becoming involved in crime, gangs, or drugs than children with no exposure to guns. Reasons to Avoid a Long Gun Rifles and shotguns do have a lot going for them: power, ease of aim, and the intimidation factor. Shotguns offer another important benefit, which is the huge versatility of ammunition choices. But long guns are also bulky, do not lend… Continue reading

Could You Really?

…ore (I’ll probably get kicked out of the Women’s Club for saying this so baldly), I’m of the opinion that my own life would be worth defending, even if I had never had children. You don’t need to have kids in order to justify your right to save your own life and protect your body. So even though I pulled the for-the-kids card in the conversation that started this article, it’s not really the line of thought that… Continue reading

Like a Glock, Only Smaller

…of its class. Only had a chance to run a single magazine through it, but that was enough to say that the little gun was just plain fun to shoot. That’s not something I can usually claim with a straight face about most small guns. For me, little guns fit a very practical niche in that they allow us to carry in ways we otherwise couldn’t, and they allow us to keep a gun with us when we otherwise wouldn’t. So there’s that. But between increased… Continue reading

It’s about love

…use we are deeply concerned about the safety of our families and our communities. We support the right to own firearms—all types of firearms—because we believe that gun ownership saves lives. We believe in the right to carry guns because we believe that carrying guns helps good people stay safe from acts of evil. We hate gun-free zones because they make it easier for violent criminals to murder innocent victims. We support human rights as they… Continue reading
